West Midlands Paediatric Anaesthetic Network (PAN)

The PAN was established in 2003, to address the issues relating to the safe delivery of paediatric anaesthetic services.   Meetings are held 3 times a year and Annual Study Days organised (usually in the month of February).

The network provides a forum within which paediatric anaesthetists can share issues and problems with other anaesthetists from both specialist and non-specialist units.

Membership includes the lead anaesthetists for paediatric anaesthesia from all the Trusts (who provide children’s services) within the West Midlands and the wider ‘Partners in Paediatrics’ area - which includes East Cheshire.

Network for Designated Professionals

In previous years, PiP has facilitated a Network for Designated Professionals.

The main objectives were to:

Provide clinical leadership to local child safeguarding systems

Provide a consistent, strategic approach to child safeguarding in the fields of assurance, training, supervision and the provision of advice and support

Provide peer support, share and promote good practice

In light of recent changes within NHS England, discussions have taken place with the Regional Lead for Safeguarding.  The organisation of the Forum for Designated Professionals covering Hereford & Worcester, the Black Country, Birmingham & Solihull and Coventry & Warwickshire and Shropshire & Staffordshire is to be decided.  It is anticipated that the/these Forum/s will have sub-groups, which will cover wider issues relating to CEPOD and CSE.

It has been agreed that PiP will continue to liaise with NHS England colleagues to support the work of the Forum/s, and the clinicians working in safeguarding across the region.  This is in the latest Work Plan agreed at the last Board meeting held on 15th July 2015.

Further updates will be provided in due course.
